Broken News, Mix Tapes, Warped Faces

BrokenNewz.com is THE source for totally false news items. But hell, they're sure fun to read.

Make and share your own mix CDs and tapes over at ArtoftheMix.org.

And - now this is really quite unnerving - upload a photo of yourself/someone you hate/celebrities/etc. to Face Transformer and see beauty get flushed right down the crapper. Truly entertaining and disturbing.

Dark Art

I am a huge fan of dark art in general. Thus, today I bring to you some of my favorite dark artists and websites.

Chad Michael Ward has done some amazing photography for bands ranging from Marilyn Manson and The Rasmus to...well, frankly, a lot of bands I've never heard of. However, that doesn't matter - the images are awesome. Be sure to check out the CDs & DVDs pages, as there you will find some amazing album and DVD covers he has designed - very wonderful stuff.

brittle-bones has some truly eerie interactive web-bits. Realistic, yet twisted and creepy. There's not too much there, but what is there is really marvelous.

I thought this was interesting - at carthedral.com you can view photos of a cathedral someone built onto a 1971 Cadillac hearse. I'm not kidding - check it out.

Novembre features the art of Daniel Long - very ethereal art, and the site layout is exceptional.

If alternative beauty queens like Dita von Teese are your thing, check out White Rabbit Studio. *faints*

I'll wrap up with something on the opposite end of things - still dark, but incredibly cheese-tastic and STUPID. Haunted Portraits . I'm not even saying anything about that one - just go bask in its lameness.

The links above and many, many more can be found at Gothic Chicago's Gallery List. Bookmark it - you won't be disappointed.

Celebrity Body Parts

I swear, the Internet is a strange, strange place indeed. Where else could you possibly go to find entire niches devoted to celebrity feet, celebrity tongues, the list goes on. Seriously - whoa. I would hate to be famous sometimes.

If you're a South Park fan, you can head over to this site for all your episode needs. *cough*

And wrapping this up with the best online game ever: 11 Somerset. Totally and completely wonderful.

Wasting Time on Celebrities

You know, it might just be me, but I sincerely believe that the way we as human beings spend our time is truly going down the crapper. We could be out making the world a better place, volunteering, caring for neglected animals, or reading to children, but are we? Hardly.

It sickens me that we as a society have become incredibly fascinated by celebrities. No longer are we content to appreciate an artist's works and leave it at that. No, we must find out every minute, asinine detail about the celebrities we admire. And for what purpose, I ask you? Is there some stellar reason behind our admiration? What possible reason is there, I ask you, to spend our time thinking about Kelly Clarkson's hair habits or who Hilary Duff is dating.

Why do we care? They are just people in a particularly profitable line of work, but we can't leave it at their music or acting. Nope, not us! We have to study everything they do, like our very life depends upon it. What purpose is there behind behaving in such a way?

It's one thing to "worship" U2's Bono because of his admirable efforts as a humanitarian, or to commend Moby for his political awareness and activism. However, there is a BIG difference between admiring a celebrity for the causes they support and looking up to someone simply because they are famous.

Seriously, we are wasting our lives, people! What if this is all there is? Wouldn't that just blow if we realized, upon death, that we could have done so much more if we hadn't dedicated so much of our time to things like this that don't even matter?

I mean - come on.

Pop Culture

It very well could be the astoundingly gorgeous Flash animations that lured me into its trap, but Iconique.com is definitely a beauty to behold. It features beautiful t-shirt designs to download and print, an interactive dream machine, a plethora of art exhibits, and much more. The beauty of the site's Flash animations is enough to warrant a visit. However, epileptics beware!

PopPolitics.com is a blog where, obviously, pop culture and politics collide. It is a very in-depth, well-organized, thought-laden blog that should be visited by any conscientuous blogger. A very well-done blog indeed.

Now, for something a little more odd and wacky, I point you towards PopCult Magazine. This site is insanely amusing, from the bizarre album art of yore and unusual ephemera to The Museum of Religious Marketing and the PopCult Art Gallery. And all that is just in the "odd glimpses" category - I've yet to venture into the realms of Obsessions, Passing Fancies, Critical Mass, Material Whirl, and Huh? Definitely grade-A pop culture entertainment for everyone.

Websoup, GOYK, ASCII

As an icon maker over at LiveJournal, I can't say how many times I've needed a certain brush or texture and haven't been able to find the right one anywhere. Websoup.org has everything you could possibly want as a graphic maker. Brushes, fonts, textures, tutorials - all in one nice, organized niche. A graphic geek's paradise!

Humorous, scary, and sometimes just plain scarring photos, videos, and more! All can be found at the hellishly delectable GOYK.COM, destined to quickly become one of your most sin-ridden pleasures.

We've all seen nifty ASCII artwork, but I've never seen anything quite as amusing as this. ASCII Art Farts is a goldmine of crude, rude, and nude ASCII art. The perfect email/forum signature!
